Travertine

Travertine

Travertine is a metamorphic rock. Though sometimes called travertine marble the stone is really a unique form of limestone deposited by mineral springs. The stone is filled with hollow spheres caused by the release of carbon dioxide during its formation. Higher grade stones will show evidence of small holes in the surface while commercial grade stone will have larger evacuations. Filled travertine is a stone that has been treated with grout to fill in the imperfections.
